Supplies:
- Candle mold
- Multicoloured chunks wax
- Double boiler
- Paraffin wax
- Stearin
- Primed wick
- Wicking needle
- Mold seal
- Masking tape
- Sharp knife
- Plasticizer ( increases the translucency of paraffin wax and give the candle added luster)
- Large jar or deep basin and weights.
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Insert a primed wick through the hole in the mold, tie it around a wicking needle, and rest the needle on the open end of the mold. Pull the other end of the wick taut, trim it and then tape it to the side of the mold. Press mold seal around the top of the mold and check that it is watertight.
- Step 2.
- Cut up coloured wax into small chunks and drop the pieces into the mold. Leave about 2cm at the top to allow room for the molten wax.
- Step 3.
- Melt the stearin then add in paraffin wax in the double boiler until it resembles clear liquid. Pour the mixture into the mold, and then leave it to settle for several minutes.
- Step 4.
- Using the back of a spoon, gently tap around the outside of the mold to encourage any air bubbles in the wax to rise to the surface.
- Step 5.
- Fill a container with water so when you place the mold into it, the water will come to within 1cm of the top. Place weights on top of the mold and leave to cool.
- Step 6.
- After about 3 hours, the candle should be ready to be removed from the mold. Tap the sides of the mold gently to help loosen the wax, then slide the candle out and trim the wick with scissors.
